Rob Wergin's Tool for Navigating the Polycrisis
/I learned the term polycrisis from the Strozzi Institute Body & Commitment one day intensive invitation (happening May 15th in Brooklyn, NYC if you can join). This time of polycrisis is “a convergence of ecological, social, and economic shifts that can feel overwhelming and unpredictable.”
The term polycrisis first arrived on the scene in 1999. A French theorist of complexity (what a tagline) Edgar Morin coined the word, “to describe the web of interconnected catastrophes threatening our world.” So, okay, polycrisis* - what to do about it.
I hope you have your own collection of tools - meditating, drumming, yelling circles, therapy, etc etc. I am offering this quick one from Rob Wergin’s May 5th Teachings and Healings from The Masters that really struck a cord with me. Direct, simple, and applicable for all the swirls of micro and macro doings.**
The goal is to remain settled in yourself during these times of intense energies. Remaining with yourself. When you feel these energies accelerating and you find yourself engaging with them we suggest you follow this exercise.
It is a practical reset of your energy and can be done anywhere, anytime.
Simply feel your feet. Do this now.
Feel your feet.
As you feel your feet take a very slow breath with a full exhale, and you say gently, “I remain with myself. These subtle energies are not mine to carry. I stay within myself now.”
Let the awareness of what you just said to yourself settle into your body. When you do that, there is a shift.
There is nothing to do. Nothing to fix internally. Nothing to fix within yourself. Life continues. Action continues. When you are settled within yourself with nothing to fix, nothing to force, nothing to interfere there is ease in your body and your life.
There is nothing to do.
There is nothing to fix.
There is nothing to force.
There is nothing to manage.
I remain with myself. The subtle energies are not mine to carry. I stay within myself now.
As the polycrisis whorls around.
*And why? As Shirley Maclaine told Oprah in 2011 our planets are in a 26,000 year alignment that is supposed to shake things up! And yes, yes it is.
As Rob says,
An acceleration is occuring in which EVERYTHING becomes more visible. Everything is being exposed. What has been held is rising up. Emotional memories are coming forward. Old patterns, everything is being amplified in this acceleration.
Old patterns appear - the mind begins to search, what do I do? Very quickly a conclusion forms. Something is wrong. Something is wrong with me. The body begins to tighten. Your attention around what is wrong tightens. Your system begins to question what is wrong. What began as a sensation - just a sensation - becomes much larger, much greater, it overtakes you. You lose your faith. You lose your patience. You lose your sense of self. Not because of the sensation itself but because you engaged with the sensation.
Consider this question - what if nothing is wrong? What if what you are experiencing is not a problem? What if what you are experiencing is simply an expansion of your awareness? What if what you are experiencing is simply your system sensing more?
Your system is feeling more. You are becoming more aware of subtle layers of you. Things that once remained un-noticed are now being felt directly and strongly and sometimes overwhelming.
These intensities can feel unfamiliar. They can feel intense. And yet - this is not a breakdown. This is an opening.
The intention of this magnification is to dissolve, to create dissolution to dissolve old ways of stabilizing. To dissolve control. To dissolve mental structures that have been controlling you. As they dissolve you begin to soften. As you begin to soften it may feel as though stability is leaving you and yet what is leaving is what was never stable.
It is allowing something much deeper and wiser to be recognized.
There is nothing to manage. Nothing to fix. Nothing to force. Nothing to manage internally.
Let that become an anchor within your body.
Let the intense energies move around, up, down, through and all of the time the energies are moving you are anchored within. Anchored to the deeper layer that is the original you. There is a place within you that doesn’t move. That remains. When you practice these techniques you learn to rest there.
You can begin to sense how this applies in your daily life - from moment to moment. Fear, worry, lack.
It is remaining with yourself while life moves around you.
Allow the body to soften, feel the nervous system stabilize and soften.
To remain within yourself - and with that your stability becomes natural.
**I also really like the nickel weight pressure of my fingers on closed eyes until I yawn to reset the vagal nerve - even writing that down makes me yawn. That is a good one if yelling in someone’s butt is not appropriate. (hehe)
